Flarient
Responsible Use
Last updated 6 October 2026
Flarient is a scientific probabilistic forecasting platform for space weather and near-Earth objects. It is designed to advance the science of forecasting through structured probability expression, calibration measurement, and crowd intelligence — not to facilitate gambling, wagering, or investment. This page explains the design principles that keep Flarient a responsible forecasting resource.
1. Forecasting, not gambling
Flarient uses the language of probability, confidence, calibration, consensus, and evidence — not the language of casinos or sportsbooks. Users express probabilities (1–99 per cent) on scientific questions about solar flares, geomagnetic storms, asteroid approaches, and other space weather events. There are no bets, wagers, stakes, payouts, jackpots, cash-outs, or portfolio returns. The platform does not use the words "bet," "wager," "stake," "winnings," "payout," "deposit," "jackpot," "profit," "loss," or similar gambling terminology anywhere in the interface.
2. PIQ (Prediction IQ) points — free and non-transferable
PIQ (Prediction IQ) points are a free virtual unit system used to represent conviction and information contribution in prediction markets. They are:
- Granted automatically when an account is created.
- Replenished automatically according to transparent, published rules.
- Earnable through legitimate participation and progression (accurate forecasts, research, observations).
- Never sold, purchased, or exchangeable for real currency.
- Never withdrawable, convertible to crypto, or transferable between users.
- Never exchangeable for gift cards, products, cash equivalents, investment assets, NFTs, or transferable tokens.
PIQ points have no monetary value. They cannot be cashed out. They exist solely as a mechanism for expressing and measuring forecasting conviction within the platform.
3. Orbit Credits — cosmetic only
Orbit Credits are a completely separate currency used exclusively for non-competitive visual customisation — avatar frames, badge styles, profile themes, AI-generated space-weather gifts, and similar cosmetic features. Orbit Credits:
- Cannot purchase PIQ points.
- Cannot increase forecasting influence or market impact.
- Cannot improve leaderboard scores or tournament qualification.
- Cannot influence corporate recruitment eligibility.
- Cannot be transferred or redeemed outside Flarient.
- Cannot affect any competitive, scoring, or ranking outcome — equipped cosmetics are purely visual.
The separation between PIQ points and Orbit Credits is enforced in backend authorization and domain logic, not merely in the frontend interface. Both systems maintain independent append-only ledgers with balance changes, reason codes, timestamps, originating services, idempotency keys, and audit metadata.
4. Jurisdiction-aware compliance
Flarient maintains a jurisdiction-aware compliance layer. Feature availability, competitions, rewards, age requirements, marketing language, and data handling rules are configurable by country. Any feature can be disabled immediately in a jurisdiction without redeploying the application. Real-world prizes, recruitment rewards, corporate challenges, and materially valuable competition rewards require explicit legal approval through configuration before activation. The platform defaults uncertain regulated functionality to disabled until approved.
5. Automated market making
Prediction markets use an LMSR-style (Logarithmic Market Scoring Rule) automated market maker with configurable liquidity parameters by market class (ordinary, major, rare, experimental, league, high-attention). Influence limits prevent any single account or bot from distorting important markets disproportionately. The market-making mechanism is documented transparently on the Methodology page. Every market state change is recorded in an immutable probability history.
6. Anti-abuse and integrity
Flarient maintains anti-sybil systems to detect multiple-account abuse, coordinated manipulation, bot masquerading, suspicious forecasting patterns, rate-limit evasion, and leaderboard manipulation. Integrity enforcement is separate from opinion or forecast correctness — the platform does not silently alter legitimate user probabilities because an anti-abuse model dislikes them. Forecasting skill determines competition results, never payment.
7. Scientific attribution
Flarient preserves source provenance for all displayed data. The platform does not use NASA, NOAA, ESA, or JPL logos, identifiers, or imagery in a way that suggests sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, or official affiliation unless explicitly authorized. All scientific data is attributed to its source provider with applicable licensing information.
